Patents
IPAT has taken various measures to ensure that its intellectual property is protected. After founding IPAT in late 2013, the team began researching what makes an idea “patentable” and how they would go about patenting their product, VIBe. Initially IPAT sought to patent VIBe in China and by 2013 its team had been awarded three Chinese patents with one more patent scheduled to arrive by the spring of 2016. While communication may have posed a problem initially, IPAT worked closely with a translator to ensure that they had both Chinese and English copies of the patents.
While securing Chinese patents was definitely a great experience for the team, IPAT’s ultimate goal was to get patents in the United States. Working with a patent lawyer in the U.S., the team spent countless hours writing, editing and proofreading legal documents in order to officially submit their patents. As of today the IPAT is still patent pending in the United States, waiting for the U.S. Patent Office to process their patent request.
